First win for Bombers’ thirds

-

Nilma-Darnum thirds won their first match of the year when it beat Nyora, that also went into the game winless, by four points. The Bombers won 7-4 to 5-12. Nyora would have been kicking itself for not taking their scoring opportunities in the third quarter when it kicked seven behinds without a goal.

Korey Carrison was brilliant for Nilma-Darnum kicking six of the goals and got good support from Haydn Burke, Blake Cann, Connor Trimble, Harley Nicklen-Rose and Ethan Ross.

Callum Miller, Jack Felton and Charlie Preston, who kicked four of his side’s goals, were Nyora’s best.

A two-game gap has already emerged between the top five teams in the thirds and the others.

Longwarry, Ellinbank, Neerim Neerim South, Buln Buln and Poowong are all on three wins.

BULN BULN tasted its first defeat when well beaten, 13-9 to 3-5, by Neerim Neerim South.

Lachlan Smith, Joshua White, Harry Notman, Christian Robertson-Edgar and Isaac Fuller provided plenty of drive for the winners and Heath Darcy capped off the good work with four goals.

Buln’s best were Thomas Jessup, Riley Sherrard, Nelson Brew, Caleb Visser and Jake Smith.

In another top “five” clash Poowong overcame an Ellinbank side that frittered away chances near goal.

A 1-6 opening term for ELLINBANK set the pattern for its day that yielded 3-14 against Poowong’s 8-6.

For the winners Hayden Wallis, Darcy Burgess, Seb Ardley, Jai Derrick, Darcy LKoughridge and Joshua Marriott stood out while Ellinbank were best served by Matthew Garvey, Jack Benes, Brian Kelly, Ryan Atherton, Matthew Dare and Nicholas Matheson.

LONGWARRY steamrolled Lang Lang 25-21 to 4-2.

Seth Ashton (six goals), Bailey Stephens, Harrison Stephens (five goals), Bailey Osseweyer, Mitchell Young and Sam Pratt starred for the Crows.

Despite the margin Sam Neill, Bailey Williams, Mason Koffman, Ethan Whittle and Dakota Boswell never gave up for Lang Lang.

Buln Buln jumped into the Reserves “five” displacing Yarragon that it defeated on Saturday.

The sides were locked in a close tussle that went to the final siren, Buln scraping home by four points 7-7 to 7-3.

Both sides kicked two goals in the final term after the Panthers pegged back Buln’s early leads to be within three points going into the last term.

Lex Wright, Nicholas Huggett, Charlie Kilday, Matthew Burdett and Andrew Welfare led Buln to its narrow victory with Ricky McKerrow kicking two goals.

Jed Saik’s three goals wasn’t enough to snatch victory for Yarragon that was also well served by Chris Karlis, John Maye, Corey Ford and Matthew Burdett.
