Finger nails were chewed as Warragul senior netballers took it up to Leongatha in close, tough games for two wins and a draw. A grade: Warragul 26 defeated Leongatha 24. The Gulls were proud of their efforts as a team. The girls fought hard, created turnovers and had the patience to convert.

Renee Cook was back on court for the first time this season for a cameo appearance. “Cookie” didn’t miss a beat and took home an award alongside Alex Cole, who worked tirelessly in the attack end.

Thanks to Melissa Burton and Madeleine Stevenson for stepping up and playing two games on the day. B grade: Warragul 36 defeated Leongatha 34. Warragul expected a tough contest going into the game against Leongatha, with both teams so far undefeated this season.

It was a close first half with teams going goal to goal.

In the third quarter, Warragul had to slow down its game to adjust to wet conditions.

Warragul maintained composure in the final quarter and was able to secure the win, defeating Leongatha by two goals. Awards: Eboni Wall and Melissa Burton. C grade: Warragul 23 drew Leongatha 23. Despite the wet weather at Leongatha, Warragul showed great netball from one end of the court to the other.

It was a tough match with contested ball work resulting in a draw. Awards: Sophie Fennell and Jessie Gleeson. Under 17: Warragul 18 lost to Leongatha 55. The girls played a proud four quarters of netball under tough circumstan­ces and trying weather conditions.

With a few players missing from the side, it was promising to see how much confidence each player has in their teammates and their ability to step up.

The girls worked hard from defence to the goal end the entire game, despite the impressive pressure and performanc­e Leongatha put on. Awards: Olivia Sheehan and Laura Miller. Under 15: Warragul 13 lost to Leongatha 44. On another wet day in Leongatha, the Gulls were happy to have Chiara Whibley playing her first game for the season.

There were a few changes to defence and the mid-court this week as Zoe Phillips moved into centre and Chiara Whibley took on goal keeper. Awards: Jacinta Bagot and Zoe Phillips. Under 13: Warragul 8 lost to Leongatha 44. The Gulls showed spectators once again that they aren’t a team to admit defeat until the final whistle.

The girls showed great determinat­ion each quarter and it was great to hear the positive talk happening across the court.
