Night game for juniors

Round 2 brought some great games of football in the Warragul and District junior leagueplay­ed across the district on the weekend.

It was kicked off by another night game at Western Park between Warragul Blues and the Colts. The unpredicat­able weather saw some huge scorelines along with some tightly contested matches throughout the age groups. Warragul Blues V Colts Under 10 A great atmosphere for the night game at Western Park which saw the Blues and Colts play a hard fought match. In what was a very tight, physical contest, both sides moved the ball up and down the field with some great passages of play. A late goal by the Blues sealed the match. Under 12 On a perfect Friday night Blues faced Colts in a great game of footy with a great atmosphere. The opening quarter the Blues strung some great plays kicking a handy few goals. In the second and third quarters Colts gave it a good go and showed a lot of fight. Both teams gave an excellent performanc­e with the Blues coming away with the win. Under 14 The first night under lights for both teams drew a large crowd and it was a perfect night for football. A clear sky and great ground conditions. Blues came out quickly and scored early. They continued to keep Colts at bay, not giving them many scoring opportunit­ies. Colts worked hard but at the final siren Blues were too strong. Buln Buln V Neerim District Under 10 After a good start in the first quarter and kicking an early goal, the battle tightened up in the second quarter. With a close contest, Neerim worked hard to take a goal lead at time. A tough competitio­n and heavy tackling Buln were able to kick a goal to tie the game resulting in a draw at the final siren. Under 12 In perfect playing conditions both sides endured the game with great stamina. Buln Buln gave great contest throughout but Neerim fought hard and played strong to take the win. Under 14 Wet conditions for the start of the clash between Buln Buln and Neerim District making for hard wet weather footy. Neerim fought hard to get a score on the board in the last quarter but Buln finished the game with a convincing win. Longwarry V Drouin Gold Under 10 Longwarry hosted Drouin Gold and were lucky the rain held off and morning conditions were great for footy. Both teams attacked the ball for the first bounce showing great skill and participat­ion. The skills that the Longwarry youngsters showed in defence was excellent and reflected on the hard work that has been going on at training. In the end Drouin just got over the line to win. Under 12 Today’s game was played in great spirit and both teams played the game with great skills. What a great game to watch. Drouin Gold came up against a very strong outfit. The Crows

Under 14 The game started with the weather in the 4 seasons with a battle of defences for the first half with strong play from Longwarry. Longwarry broke free with 3 goals to 1 in the 2nd half. Drouin gold never gave up with a goal in the last quarter. Low scoring game in sometimes difficult conditions. Drouin’s Hamish Cook-Whiting, Billy Jones and Dom Keane celebrated their 50 games. Bunyip V Yarragon Under 10 Players from both teams held their positions well resulting in a free-flowing game with good skills on display. Bunyip showed great sportsmans­hip by giving an under manned Yarragon team players ensure everyone was able to play a full game on the ground. Under 12 After a slow start Yarragon clawed their way back into the lead with a strong team effort in the third quarter. In a great tussle Yarragon held strong until a final minute goal from Bunyip. A great game and effort from both sides. Under 14 The Bunyip team came ready to play as team. There pressure from the first bounce resulted in some early scoreboard pressure. The match was well contested and equally matched, despite the scoreboard. Bunyip were just too strong for Yarragon taking a great win. Bunyips Ethan Marson played his 75th game. Caldermead­e V Garfield Under 10 Great Morning for footy. Sun was shining and no sign of rain. Cannons came out strong from the start and there were great pockets of play by Garfield but despite the efforts of Garfield, Cannons were too strong. Under 12 Despite initial fears of a very wet and cold opening quarter of football the weather cleared dramatical­ly to clear and sunny conditions. First quarter saw Caldermead­e dominate with some great kick and play. Garfield fought back in the second with good defence and plenty of scoring opportunit­ies. A very close third term came with some great defence by both teams. A very exciting last quarter saw Caldermead­e hit the front with great desperatio­n to finish convincing winners. Well done both teams. Caldermead­e’s Archie Thompson and Cohan Waixel played their 50 games. Under 14 The sun was out on occasion but it didn't help the Cannons, who struggled to match up on a strong Garfield side. Garfield missed the big sticks more times than not in the first half but it made no difference in the end to a scoreless Cannons. Drouin Maroon v The Bulls Under 10 Great conditions as the rain held off for round two. Both sides had great numbers which gave the children the best opportunit­y to use their skills. It was a fantastic contest with the Bulls taking the win. Under 12 The sun came out for the start of the under 12 Drouin Maroon game against The Bulls. Both teams showed some talent with good skills and attack on the ball. Drouin Maroon was able to make the most of their forward entries and their backline defenced extremely well to keep the Bulls to just a few behinds. Under 14 An amazing game of Junior Football was played this morning. Drouin got off to a good start and looked comfortabl­e in the first term but the Bulls came back with real hard work and took control, the game was in the balance but Drouin kept fighting and eventually won the game by a point. Ellinbank V Warranor Under 10 A cold and wet start did not stop some great skills from both teams. Tough play in and under was the theme of the day but passages of clean possession and linking play shone through with both teams kicking goals from direct play. A great game of football by both teams with Ellinbank taking the win. Under 12 Warranor started strong kicking two goals in the first quarter. Ellinbank stopped the surge in the second quarter but just couldn't contain the away side third quarter. Warranor came away with a good win despite Ellinbanks’ efforts throughout the game. Ellinbank’s Jackson Brown played his 50th game. Under 14 Spirited game in changing weather conditions saw Warranor challenge Ellinbank. Ellinbank picked up the pressure in the 2nd quarter resulting in a goal and they continued to work hard all game however Warranor came away with a well deserved win.
