There was a move away from the usual garden topics at the April meeting with the suppliers of our wheelchair­s and walkers, Access Rehabilita­tion Equipment, introducin­g its wide range of products to assist those of us that, now or in the future, have mobility and other health issues.

While the two company members brought many samples, their catalogue displays a huge range of mobility and daily living products to improve life for the aged and infirm. Club members showed special interest in those simple items such as jar and bottle openers, tap turners and kettle tippers. Many members took the opportunit­y to purchase or order items.

Joanne of Tours Local who described a special tour to some excellent open gardens in New South Wales, especially the Port Stephens and the Hunter Valley. This tour will leave on November 17 for eight days.

Early in May, 35 club members enjoyed a bus trip to the Dandenong Ranges to view the autumn colours.

The first stop was at the Alfred Nicholas Memorial garden which was resplenden­t in its variety of colours displayed by the Ash, Ginkgo, Oak and various species of Maple trees.

The steep terrain was challengin­g at times but provided an enjoyable experience. After Lunch at Tecoma we went back to the second garden on Sherbrook Road, the George Tindale Memorial Garden which like the Alfred Nicholas (of Aspro fame) is run by Parks Victoria.

Though smaller it has some unique features that contribute to gardening interest at any time of the year. On the way home we visited the
