Rallying for a cause

-

History will soon be repeating itself for Greg Walker of Warragul and Mal McCann of Cowes.

Forty years ago Greg and Mal entered the Round Australia Reliability Trial, driving 19,000k in just 14 days

They drove a bright yellow Renault Virage, finishing in 55th place and only beaten home by seven other two-person crews.

Greg and Mal have found a Renault of the same vintage and have set to work to bring it up to the required standard to undertake the event in August this year.

The event will be slightly shorter and both Greg and Mal are looking forward to re-living some of the experiences they had all those years ago, proving that age is no barrier.

This time around Greg and Mal want to raise funds for two causes close to their hearts Baw Baw Bawand Bass Coast L2P youth driver education programs and the Smith Family ‘Learning for Life’ program

Both Greg and Mal are driving mentors with L2P. Volunteer Mentors supervise the driving of disadvantaged young people prior to gaining their P licence. Even though its a volunteer program, the cars used by the L2P cost money to keep on the road, so funds are always needed.

Learning for Life is supported by both the Warragul and Cowes VIEW clubs, assisting with the educational needs of disadvantaged children.

Local people and businesses have amazed Greg and Mal with their generous practical help and promised contributions.

If anyone or a group or business is willing to assist with fundraising, every gift, regardless of its size, will be gratefully received. All funds raised will be distributed to these charities.
