Rotary helps BlazeAid

-

Members of the Drouin Rotary Club in recent weeks have been attending fortnightly at the Bunyip Community Centre to prepare the evening meals for the BlazeAid volunteers involved in the recovery process following the disastrous Bunyip State Park bushfires.

Parties of six to eight Rotarians and partners visit Bunyip on each occasion, on a roster system being overseen by club director Russell Ford, as part of the seven-day roster being co-ordinated by the Bunyip Community House team

During a recent visit to the centre, Russell presented a cheque for $1230 to BlazeAid’s “post and wire” fund. This donation was the club’s earnings from the May Drouin Produce and Craft Market which had been dedicated to the cause.

When presenting the cheque, Russell said that the club was pleased to be in a position to support the volunteers assisting in the recovery process in the aftermath of the fires.

He thanked all those club members and partners who had volunteered to join the catering roster, who to date, had contributed 200 hours of voluntary community service.

He said also that the donation to the post and wire fund had been made possible by strong community support for the club’s fund-raising project - the monthly produce and craft market.

In accepting the cheque, local BlazeAid co-ordinator John Anderson thanked the Drouin Rotary Club for its generous contribution and “handson” catering service, and said that the practical support was appreciated very much by BlazeAid and its team of volunteers.
