Tanjil Valley captured in annual art show

-

The picturesque Tanjil Valley will be captured when the 13th annual Tanjil Valley Art Show is held at Hill End this weekend.

Committee member Liz Bowley reported 342 entries, the third highest number, had been received ahead of the art show.

Ms Bowley said the show was started to publicise the Tanjil Valley and record it in paintings and photography, with “The Best Portrayal of the Tanjil Valley” the main section.

While many people travel out through Warragul to Noojee and Walhalla, similar numbers don’t seem to enjoy the picturesque path through Willow Grove, Hill End and Fumina South.

The art show is also an opportunity for the local community to showcase their talents as artists and photographers – including a large number of youth, whilst helping to utilise the Hill End Community Centre, previously the Hill End Primary School.

This year’s subject for budding artists aged 13 and over in the 3D category is “Magical Creatures”, whilst it is an open topic in the 2D art.

No matter what the weather, Ms Bowley is expecting large crowds to enjoy the art show.

“It doesn’t seem to make much difference. We always seem to get a good crowd,” she said.

Ms Bowley said marquees and projectors would be utilised for the “very social occasion” which is the official opening on Friday from 7pm. Admission is free.

“If you want to see the paintings, you come over the long weekend,” she explained.

Viewing is available on Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 10am to 4pm. Entry is via gold coin donation.

The Hill End Community Centre is located on Paynters Rd, Hill End.
