Junior Gulls two great wins

-

Warragul’s two junior teams were the toast of the club on Saturday.

In terms of their seasons the thirds and fourths were “huge” winners against strong Traralgon teams at Western Park.

The margin in the fourths was certainly not huge – two points - but the four premiership points were.

It was a clash fitting of two sides that went into the match undefeated and with top place on the ladder at stake.

The game was nip and tuck all the way, generally less than one goal the difference with Warragul desperately hanging on at the finish to scrape home 6-10 to 6-8.

It was an excited dressing room full of players, supporters, families and friends after the siren.

Jai Serong, Cooper Alger and William Luttrell kicked two goals each.

Serong, Alger, Vinnie Caia, Tom Stern and Nathan Whitten headed another fine team performance.

The dressing rooms were just as crowded after the thirds had produced a barnstorming finish to topple Traralgon 9-12 to 5-4.

For three quarters the game had followed the pattern of the fourths; close throughout with Warragul having narrow leads of one, two and four points at each of the changes.

That was before the Gulls blitzed the last term with 4-3 to nil.

Warragul sits among the top four that are all well clear of the rest of the pack.

Daniel Coates, Lachlan Bambridge, Connor Ives, Malcolm Elliot, Jye Mitchell and Liam Giliam were best in an even group.

Giliam, Bambridge and Lachlan Wilson each kicked two goals and singles were scored by Eddie McGillivray and Vinnie Caia.
