Big wins in the reserves’ games

-

Every victorious side in the EDFL reserves competition won by more than 40 points. Some teams won by as much as 111 points in the case of Nyora versus Ellinbank.

Nyora managed only single behinds in the second and third terms. They kicked one major in the first but were scoreless in the last.

Their loss sees them drop two places from sixth to eighth. Ellinbank remain undefeated win seven wins for the season and enjoy the luxury of top spot on the ladder.

Jayson Barwick was best on ground for the Eagles. His efforts were backed up by Tim Webster, Matt Farthing, Ashley Scott, Ryan Carpenter and Mat Robertson.

For the Saints it was Nick Fairbank who had the better game on the day. Ben Lineham, Sam Collis, Bart Kelly and James Harkess were also influential.

Catani's reserves could not do the same as their senior side, losing 5.5-35 to their host Buln Buln's 13.9-87. The Lyrebirds jump two places on the ladder, going from seventh to fifth. The Blues continue to languish at the bottom of the pile.

The two sides were almost even in the first with a one-point margin and only three points separated them at the main break. But by the third term things had begun to change with 16 points separating the two sides. When the final whistle sounded, a look to the scoreboard would reveal a Buln Buln win by 52 points.

Ashley Bridger was best on ground for the home side. Jarryd Kilday, Matt Pearson, Ricky McKerrow (who slotted five goals), Simon Dawson and Nick Huggett also received honourable mentions.

The Blues' best man was Trent Adams. Ayden Mills, Ryan Lowe, Ryan Smith, Blake Matthews and Shaun Donnelly also made important contributions.

Another big win for the round was Neerim Neerim South's 60-point victory over Nilma Darnum.

It was a relatively even first term but that stopped once the second term began. Neerim Neerim South almost doubled the Bomber's score by halftime. Nilma Darnum fought back but by the end of the third the margin remained a healthy 20-points in the visitor's favour.

In the final term there was nothing the Bombers could do. The Cats kept them scoreless while adding another six goals to their tally. When the whistle blew the Cats had won 14.13-97 to 6.1-37.

Joshua Price was best on ground for the home side. He was backed up by the contributions of Malcolm Hunter, Liam Van Eyk, Michael Buzasi and Harrison Moore. Malcolm Hunter was his side's only goal scorer, booting all six of Nilma Darnum's majors.

Nilma stay in ninth place, percentage the only thing stopping them from falling past Catani to the bottom place. Neerim Neerim South jump up a place, going from eighth to seventh.

Poowong's home game against Lang Lang did not do the Pies' percentage any favours. They lost 5.3-33 to 12.8-80. Lang Lang kicked had kicked an extra goal in the second. Then they kicked an extra three in the third.

They both started with the same scoreline in the first term -- one goal and seven behinds each. But it was a different story by halftime.

Poowong of course responded, but only with an additional three goals. The fourth quarter was where the Tigers turned on the burners. They blew them home side away with a six-goal haul just in the fourth quarter.

Brad Michie was best on ground for the victors. Stuart Casey, Cory Dowson and Eden Shepherd also put in stellar efforts.

For Poowong it was William Lumby who was best man on the day. Honourable mentions also went to Kyle Aitken, Jye Loughridge, Kyle Loveridge, Tristan Hawksworth and Matt Loughridge.

Poowong slip to fourth on the ladder, Lang Lang replace them, jumping into third.

Longwarry continued their senior side's success on Saturday with a 76-point thrashing of the Panthers at Yarragon.

Yarragon managed just one major in the first, one behind in the second and another major and behind in the third before being kept scoreless in the final term.

The Crows meanwhile had reached the 50point mark by halftime. They extend that score to an astonishing 90 points by the end of the third. The final term saw neither side score.

Harley Jones was best on ground for the Crows. Braydon Monroe, Brodie Hamilton, Ryan Wouters, Shaun Eckhardt and Glenn Browney were also influential.
