Gulls hold third spot

-

Warragul netballers impressed with a seven-goal win over second placed Traralgon at Western Park on Saturday.

The Gulls sit third on the Gippsland League ladder.

A grade: Warragul 51 def Traralgon 44.

A very different game to the previous week. Warragul came out and proved to themselves that they can do anything with determination and teamwork.

Warragul’s defensive pressure from every player caused many turnovers and Myah Healey and Jaime Rollinson did a ripper job converting. It was a very rewarding win for the Gulls.

Awards: Myah Healey and Mia McGarrity.

B grade: Warragul 44 Traralgon 53.

Traralgon came out strong in the first quarter, scoring 19 goals and catching Warragul off guard.

A change in defence and through the midcourt saw the remaining three quarters even out.

Warragul fought hard in the lost to last quarter - and were able to get within five goals of Traralgon, however, couldn’t beat Traralgon’s accuracy in goals.

Awards: Bec O’Halloran and Mackenzie Minichiello.

C grade: Warragul 46 defeated Traralgon 26.

A fantastic day for C grade, with Warragul fighting hard across all four quarters of the game for a promising win against Traralgon.

Full efforts were given by every player, with second and third efforts consistent down all thirds of the court.

Awards: Cindy Dawson for her countless intercepts and contestant pressure in wing defence and Hannah McKenzie for providing brilliant drive into attack.

Under 17s: Warragul 31 lost to Traralgon 32.

It was an intense and competitive four quarters of netball and the Gulls gave it all they had.

Although the Gulls went down by one goal, great netball was played, beginning with defensive efforts and conversions by the attacking end.

With the talent and determination this side has, there is no doubt the wins will come.

Awards: Grace Radford and Olivia Sheehan.

Under 15s: Warragul 9 Traralgon 43.

It is always a tough game against Traralgon. The girls started a little flat in the first half, although they were able to build as a team towards the end.

There was plenty of encouragement and support from the bench and sidelines.

Awards: Chiara Whibley and Charli Hendrikse.

Under 13s: Warragul 8 Traralgon 53.

It was always going to be a hard match against a strong Traralgon, yet the Gulls once again impressed all with continued improvement and determination.

The second quarter was Warragul’s best, with Traralgon only managing five goals to Warragul’s four.

The scoreboard did not reflect yet another strong game from the juniors of the club.

Awards: Maggie Cook and Pippa Cook. lost to lost to
