Warragul Rotary

-

Warragul Rotary Club is gearing up for the Business Excellence Awards evening on June 18.

The event will enable Rotarians and members of the public to nominate a local business and give recognition for quality of service, good professional conduct and great customer service.

A sub committee willl be going through the nominations. This is just one way that Rotary seeks to recognise and encourage our local businesses.

In June the club allocates the money it has worked hard to raise throughout the year. To ensure those funds benefit a wide range of groups all donations are considered against five categories: Rotary International Foundation, Club international projects, Australian Rotary projects, Warragul Rotary local initiatives and local donation requests.

The club is most grateful for the ongoing support receive from businesses in the Warragul area. To mention a few businesses that have helped with the Christmas tree project, Jana director John Castle for his stump removal and site levelling at the Landsbrough tree site and Gippy Tree Services director Luke and Kelly Sheppard for their recent work on tree stump removal at the Gulwarra site.

In May the club met with the Warragul Scout group at the scout hall in Bowen Street. Warragul Rotary has had a long association with Warragul Scouts, in recent times that has included assistance with the harvesting and selling of Christmas trees.

On May 28 the club, together with many other Gippsland Rotary clubs, focused on the issue of mental health.

A home care package is a co-ordinated package of care and services to help you to live in your own home for as long as you can.

To begin with, some people receive help through the Commonwealth Home Support Programe and are then assessed for a home care package.

There is a long waiting list for these services and Lisa encouraged everyone to register with My Aged Care to be assured of the necessary help and care if and when needed. Call 1800 200 422. Have your Medicare card on hand.

Despite the cold, wet weather, the trip to Walhalla was a great success. All members and their guests thoroughly enjoyed the coach drive, journey on the Walhalla Goldfields Railway, lunch at Walhalla Station and a guided tour of all the tourist spots.

The group is looking forward to its mid-year luncheon at Warragul Country Club on Friday July 12 as well as the proposed outing to Old Gippstown later in the year.

The next meeting will be held on Thursday June 6 in Pettit Room 2 at West Gippsland Healthcare Group Community Services, Gladstone Street, Warragul. 1.30pm start.

Guest speaker will be Helen Beggs who will speak on the topic of ‘Continence’. Everyone welcome.

Chair-based exercises are held every Monday in the Morton Lounge at Fairview Village, Warragul. The 45 minute exercise class begins at 9.30am and is followed by morning tea.

Warm water exercises are held at Warragul Leisure Centre on Tuesday afternoons and Thursday mornings. At present there are no vacancies in the Tuesday afternoon warm water class.

New members are welcome to attend the Thursday morning class from 9.30am to 10.am. Cost is $3 per class and includes morning tea. Call Annette Gallagher on 5623 2759.

The group is grateful for the leadership
