Gippslanders assist Saints to ladder top

-

The Saint Francis Saints are on top of the ladder in division four of the Victoria Football Integrated Development Association competition.

Former Gippsland Grunters players Brian Mussared, Alice Spooner and David Bowen were hugely influential in the Saints win over Lower Plenty Bears last Sunday, winning 12.11-83 to 9.4-58.

Last weekend their teammates Kelvin Walters and Shaun Doll were chosen for the final Vic Country squad for the National Inclusion Carnival.

A new rule stipulating that a maximum of three players could be selected from each team meant many other talented Saints players unfortunately missed out.

The Saints are the only undefeated team in the competition, with five back-to-back wins.

In last Sunday’s game, the in-form St Francis side kept their visitors to just one goal in the first quarter. Meanwhile, they stacked 30 points on the scoreboard.

In the second term, the Saints continued to blaze a trail with 63 points by the time the main break came around.

By the end of the third quarter, St Francis had hit the 10-goal mark and their lead had grown to 43 points. That gap widened in the last term. Lower Plenty put in a good effort, finishing on nine goals four behinds, but it was not enough to overcome St Francis' scoreline of 12 goals and 11n points.

The results for the rest of the round are as follows:

Kananook Red 12.20-92 def. Mazenwood White 6.1-37.

Cranbourne 15.6-96 def. Williamstown 6.642.
