Goals aplenty at Dragon’s Den

-

Prom Coast made the almost two-hour journey to Drouin with great scoring on display in good conditions despite the recent wet weather.

The highlight of the day was seeing the women’s team pick up their second win of the season and move into sixth on the table.

Next weekend is a bye for the Dragons. However, Drouin has more than 20 players heading to Albury for the Country Championships.

Men’s reserves: Drouin defeated Prom Coast 14-0.

Off the back of a hard-fought win versus Inverloch (away), Drouin returned to the Den in a top versus bottom clash against Prom Coast.

Drouin hit the ground running with a few early chances before a well defended corner was hit on the half volley by Sandy Benson. He found the top corner from the edge of the area to make it 1-0 to the home team.

Drouin controlled the game from then on out with more first half goals coming from winger Enrico Ercoles, strike partnership Jarrod Buckley-Cook and Reece Harrison (two), central midfielder Michael Caldwell and utility man Shannon Kgnet. The Dragons cruised to a 7-0 half-time lead. The second half tempo was turned down quite considerably, resulting in a friendly game.

Prom Coast came close on a few occasions, but the calm and accurate tackling from the Dragons backline ensured they were kept at bay.

More goals followed in the second half, coming again from striker partnership Harrison and Buckley-Cook, midfielder Caldwell and winger Ercoles.

Approaching the 90th minute, the Dragons went forward one last time when striker Harrison took the ball around the approaching Prom Coast keeper. A simple tap in followed into the empty net for his sixth goal of the day and Drouin’s 14th.

Goals: Shannon Kgnet, Sandy Benson, Michael Caldwell (two), Jarrod Buckley-Cook (two), Enrico Ercoles (two), Reece Harrison (six). Women’s: Drouin defeated Prom Coast 6-1. The women didn’t have their heads in the game for the first half, with wrong passes and positions not being held. It also saw the coach coming on for her first run of the season.

The first goal was scored by Lilly Carrison, and Bec Foulds followed with goal number two. Drouin led 2-0.

A half-time chat by the coach made the girls think, and they went back out switched on and looking ready to play.

The women were playing their game, passing, calling and finally looked settled. Prom Coast kept up the fight and scored.

With Drouin back in the game, Thalia Mitchell and Alison Dixon both put the ball in the net and with Foulds, being in the right spot at the right time, also put a couple more in the net. A great game played by the women. Awards: Bec Foulds and Mel Dixon. Under 14A: Drouin defeated Prom Coast 120.

Drouin was on top from the start, but Prom Coast never stopped trying.

Goals: Tristian Silver 5, Lachlan Silver 2, Liam Brock 2, Tyler Smith, Kieran Williams and Charles Blackburn.

Under 14B: Drouin defeated Lang Lang 5-1.

Drouin took on Lang Lang in slippery conditions.

An even first half saw Drouin take the lead courtesy of a Conor McCluskey strike.

The second half saw Drouin step up and score four more goals, with Finley Lock becoming a long-range specialist as well as a well worked header.

Dylan Sotiropoulos scored a great solo goal and McCluskey finished from the penalty spot.

Dennis Pilikidis was outstanding in defence, Tahj Osseweyer was tireless in the midfield and an under the weather Thomas Dennis never stopped running. Under 12: Drouin defeated Prom Coast 10-0. Dragons were dominant up front throughout the game, with little for the defence to handle. Special mention needs to go to the Prom Coast central defender who saved many attacks.

Scorers: Dylan Pawlik 5, Tom Blackburn 2, Aidan Johnson, Harvey Myluis, Fareed Rahimi. Best: Dylan Pawlik. Coaches award: Marcel Urbach. Encouragement award: Henry Ashcroft. Under 8: Drouin drew Prom Coast 1-1. The kids had an even matched game. Well done to Audrey for playing the first half for Prom Coast.

Caleb played in goals for the first half and saved several tries by the opposition.

Jaz and Max shared the ball around going for goals, but just not getting them in this week. Adam got in and attacked the ball along with Mieke who carried the ball nicely up the pitch.

The second half saw Max in goals who was eager to do a goalie run but then let one slip past him. But that saw Caleb go in and attack and finally get one in to even the score.

Spencer and Castro played a great game by being in the right spot at the right time.

The coach was proud of all the kids who are improving and put on a great game to watch. Parents award: Jasmine. Coaches award: Adam. Encouragement award: Castro and Spencer.
