Special meeting for controversial estate

-

A special meeting will be held tomorrow night for Baw Baw Shire to decide on a controversial residential subdivision in Warragul.

The planning permit application, put forward by WKR Developments Pty Ltd, is for a staged, multi-lot subdivision in Warragul-Korumburra Rd.

The report presented to council says the proposal, comprising 265 lots, would be undertaken in nine stages.

Council has received 94 objections to the proposal.

The applicants and objectors will be given the opportunity to address council at tomorrow night’s special meeting.

Planning officers have recommended council approve the planning permit to subdivide the land in stages, remove native vegetation, create an access road and demolish a building with a heritage overlay.

Lots will range in size from 374 square metres to 1048 square metres, achieving a density of 12.7 dwellings per developable hectare.

It is proposed primary access to the subdivision will be via a new intersection connecting to Warragul Korumburra Rd. This intersection will be constructed in stage one.

Secondary access will be available to residents via Selent Drv. This connection will be constructed in stage four when about half of the proposed lots are constructed.

Planners said the proposal was consistent with state and local planning policies including the Warragul precinct structure plan.

The special council meeting will be held at 5.30pm tomorrow at the West Gippsland Arts Centre Fountain Room.
