Eagles win hard fought match

-

Ellinbank were triumphant against Buln Buln on Saturday, winning by 14 points in a hard-fought match at Buln Buln.

The Lyrebirds were 10 points up by the end of the first quarter. Buln Buln had kicked a clean three goals to the Eagles' one goal two behinds. It was a similar story in the second quarter and by the main break the momentum still seemed to be with the Lyrebirds who had kicked six goals one by that point. The visitors had managed three goals four.

But all that changed in the third term. The Eagles stormed out of the blocks from the first bounce of the quarter and kicked five goals three. The Lyrebirds added another two goals one but it was not enough to hold onto the lead. The term finished with the Eagles in front by five points.

The final term saw Ellinbank add another five goals one to their tally bringing their final scoreline to 13.8-86.

The hosts did their best to hang on but finished the last quarter with just three goals more than they had started the term on, bringing their tally 11.6-72.

Adam Cook was Ellinbank's best man on the day. He was backed up by the efforts of Ben Wragg, Matthew Farthing, Michael Urie, Ben Drew and Hayden Stagg.

Sam Langford was best on ground for the home side. Luke O'Brien, Adam Rakip, Matt Gray, Darcy Nielsen and Mitch Park received honourable mentions.

The result means Ellinbank will stay in its number two position on the ladder, which the Eagles have held since Longwarry removed them from the top spot in round three. Buln Buln rise to sixth place with Catani dropping to seventh.

Buln Buln will have a chance to improve that position when they meet fourth-placed Nyora at home on Saturday, although they will be in for a hard game. Ellinbank play Lang Lang at home.
