Cats steamroll Yarragon in one-sided affair

-

Neerim Neerim South steamrolled Yarragon in a one-sided affair at Neerim South on Saturday.

The Cats finished the day 15.11-101 to the Panthers' 7.7-49. Neerim Neerim South blew away their opponents from the first bounce. The first term ended with the Panthers putting just one goal one on the scoreboard in response to the Cats' four goals three.

The Cats retained that twenty-point lead at the conclusion of the second term which saw Yarragon add four majors and two behinds. But their first quarter performance hurt them because although they were able to match the four goals the home side booted, they still entered the main break with a lot of catching up to do.

Poor accuracy hurt any chance of a Panthers comeback. They kicked one goal four in the third. The Cats put three majors through the big sticks, with three behinds.

In the final term, Neerim Neerim South continued the four-goals-a-quarter trend and finished with fifteen goals eleven in total.

The visitors put just one more goal on the scoreboard brining their final tally to seven goals seven. Nathan Bayne was best on ground for the Cats. He was backed up by the efforts of Dean Stringer, Tyssen Morrow, Lachie Guy, Matt Laskey and Jeremiah Jones. Tyssen Morrow kicked four majors, Ashley Lockett booted three. Yarragon’s best man was Simon Noy. Jake Cropley, Donovan Pell, Matt Moseley, James Harvey and Darcy Jones received honourable mentions.

Yarragon maintain their eighth position on the ladder despite the loss, although Saturday's result does their percentage no favours and they will have to work hard if they want to move up the ladder. Neerim Neerim South stay in fifth place.

Yarragon will have a chance to make up some ground when they play Nilma Darnum away on Saturday. Yarragon's chance of a victory are much better than Neerim Neerim South who play top side Longwarry in their round 10 clash.
