Warragul senior netballers took the lead against strong competitio­n in Moe on Saturday but were unable to secure a win.

The C grade game resulted in a draw whilst A grade had a 10-goal loss and B grade a narrow three-goal loss. A grade: Warragul 36 lost to Moe 46. Warragul started off strongly against Moe, with a six-goal lead going into the quarter break.

Lots of own errors in the second quarter saw Moe fight back.

Alex Cole took home best on court with a constant fight for turnovers in wing defence. But, unfortunat­ely for the Gulls, it was a more determined Moe team who won the game.

Jaime Rollinson worked hard in goal attack and was the other Warragul award winner. B grade: Warragul 49 lost to Moe 52. Perfect conditions for netball saw a fast paced first quarter. Moe dominated in goals, resulting in a 10-point lead at the first break.

Warragul lifted its game and worked hard for the remaining three quarters to reduce Moe’s lead and was able to get in front during the final term. Unfortunat­ely, poor disposals by Warragul in the last five minutes gave Moe the turnovers they needed to regain the lead at the final whistle. Awards: Anna Green and Alanis Joyner. C grade: Warragul 40 drew Moe 40. Warragul knew this would be in for a tough match against Moe. Although the Gulls held a marginal lead for most of the game, they were never able to break away, and the game resulted in Warragul’s second draw for the season.

Warragul’s goalers had to stand up in the absence of their coach, and that they did. Youngster Sophie Fennell continues to develop every week and had a brilliant game.

Georgia Lyons stepped up in goal attack and was a great support to Sophie.

Awards: Sophie Fennell and Hannah McKenzie. Under 17s: Warragul 25 lost to Moe 45. Under trying circumstan­ces with three players away, it was exciting to see how each of Warragul’s players stood up and produced such a competitiv­e four quarters of netball.

The Gulls attacking end was solid all game, converting on any given opportunit­y coming from the hard work in defence. Awards: Grace Radford and Bridie Mulqueen. Under 15s: Warragul 15 lost to Moe 36. The defensive pressure down the court was key for the Gulls against Moe, and the whole team strived to apply it.

Warragul’s goalers worked hard to score and reward the team when the defenders secured an intercept. Awards: Rylee McCarthy and Emily Hobbs. Under 13s: Warragul 14 lost to Moe 37. The team showed versatilit­y this week as girls played positions new to them and did a fantastic job.

There was great ball movement down the court, showing that all the team are working hard to incorporat­e skills worked on during training into their game play.
