Making Baw Baw family friendly
A new initiative is encouraging businesses across the shire to promote themselves as family friendly.
The Family Friendly Shops initiative aims to make it easier for residents and visitors with children to plan outings and frequent local businesses, knowing they will have access to family friendly services and amenities.
Businesses can choose to participate in the project by displaying a combination of family friendly stickers, which will allow families to easily identify where they can access services and facilities they need when shopping in the shire.
The sticker system is as an eye-catching way to let families know that facilities like a parent room for feeding, or a toilet with change facilities are available without the obligation of making a purchase.
Mayor Mikaela Power said council was actively exploring new opportunities to make the shire a more welcoming destination for families.
“This initiative will not only help parents with young children to feel more welcome when they’re out and about, it’ll also be an opportunity for local businesses to be recognised for their family friendly features and even attract new customers.
“I encourage all local businesses operators to jump on board to help us to create a more friendly community for everyone,” she said.
Businesses can register through the Family Friendly Shops webpage where there is an information pack and online registration form.
