Baw Baw Shire Council is asking local residents and businesses to take part in a survey that will assist in planning for the future.

Mayor Mikaela Power said the survey aimed to provide council with a greater understanding of the types of employment and skill sets that exist within our growing community.

“Survey results will help inform and guide council’s economic development and business support services into the future,” she said.

Cr Power said much of the interest for the surveys was due to the rapid growth of many shire communities along the train line including Longwarry, Drouin, Warragul, Yarragon and Trafalgar, which continue to grow at levels far beyond the increases experienced in other parts of Victoria.

The survey will be distributed within the next few weeks. Businesses will receive the survey electronically, while residents in selected new residential developments will receive handdelivered letters.

Cr Power said the survey was voluntary and participants were highly encouraged to contribute to the study.

“Baw Baw Shire is one of Victoria’s fastest growing regions, so this survey will help us gain a clearer picture on who is living here and about what sort of job skills they have.

“We’re also asking businesses to find out more about their strengths and any ways in which we can help going forward.”

“We want to provide the community with an opportunity to tell us more about themselves so that we not only better understand current needs but help identify matters that have not previously been addressed,” she said.
