Orchid Club

-

Once again winter kept a few members away from the last meeting of the West Gippsland Orchid Club but the hall was warm with the heating on and the wood fire giving extra warmth for those that attended.

As there wasn’t a guest speaker the topic for the evening was members giving growing tips for an orchid they had brought to show on the night.

This gave a good range of orchid plants to be discussed by the owners and questions were answered as they arose.

At the next meeting on August 1, Marita Anderson comes with a wealth of knowledge to show how to prepare orchids for showing.

With the Spring Orchid Show in Drouin just around the corner, this is something members will be doing very soon. Marita grows some lovely orchids and will be bringing plants along for sale as well.

Warragul Arthritis Self Help Group recently held a celebratory luncheon for its band of volunteers.

The group has around 66 members which includes 12 on the executive committee.

Some of the members are trained exercise leaders, both warm water and chair-based. Stalwarts Annette Gallagher and Ray Derbyshire have been leaders for many years and have now been joined by Ray Brydon. These three take all exercise classes. Don McArthur leads the Nordic Walking group.

It is a requirement of Musculoskeletal Victoria that two leaders be present at every session.

More leaders are desperately needed to keep the group functioning. The cost of training is paid by the group.
