Poor first term is costly for Magpies

-

The Tigers went down to the Magpies at Lang Lang on Saturday, Lang Lang losing by 26 points – 5.6-36 to 9.8-62.

Lang Lang had a poor first term, managing to put just one behind on the scoreboard.

Poowong meanwhile enjoyed a 30-point opening lead after a five-goal effort in the second term.

The scoring slowed somewhat in that second term for Poowong as Lang Lang attempted to get back into the match, managing to add four goals to their tally.

Poowong held a 12-point lead at the main break. That margin did not change much in the third quarter, with both sides each adding one more major score.

Lang Lang were still in the game, but Poowong had all the momentum heading into the final term.

The Tigers managed only two behinds in that final quarter, while the Magpies cemented their victory by adding two majors to their tally to bring their full-time scoreline to 9.8-62.

Lang Lang finished 26 points behind on 5.636.

Best on ground for the victors was Will Lumby. He was backed up by the efforts of Jack Hazendonk, Jayden Sullivan, Michael Harris, Lachlan Green and Jai Newcombe.

Lang Lang’s best man on the day was Rhys Simmons. Lachlan Barwick, Dean Brown, Liam O’Connor, Aaron Rose and Travis Kitchin also received honourable mentions.

The Tigers remain in ninth place on the ladder after this result. Poowong also keep their previous ladder position, staying in third place.

Lang Lang will have a chance to redeem themselves when they take on Yarragon at home on Saturday. Poowong play Nyora at home.
