Dusties jump into fourth

-

The Warragul Industrials women’s team are fourth on the SEWFL division three ladder after a big win against Mornington in the TAC Towards Zero Round.

The Dusties women travelled to the Main Street oval in Mornington on Sunday afternoon for the round 12 match in which they needed to win to maintain their momentum towards finals.

Dusties started the match in good form with an early centre clearance.

They maintained the football in their forward 50 only to have the Bulldogs quickly send the ball back to their forward line and a resulting goal.

Not to be outdone, the Dusties again took possession from the centre bounce. A quick response of their own gave Dusties the quarter time lead of three points.

Both teams put everything into their game with some hard tackles that congested the game at times. It was the Dusties in the second quarter who were able to dominate with two goals for a very handy 21-point advantage.

The second half of the game was an intense game of football with both sides vying for fourth position. The Dusties maintained the ball down their forward line for much of the time and eventually kicked a goal.

Only minor scores were in order for the final term as both teams continued their enormous effort to limit the other team from scoring.

The Dusties were too strong for Mornington in a fantastic game of women’s football.

Final score: Mornington 1.3-9 to Warragul Industrials 4.5-29.

Goals: Rebecca Whelan two, Jenna Robertson and Carlee Maher one.

Best: Carlee Maher, Jenna Robertson, Rebecca Whelan, Katherine Grondahl, Alicia Clerks and Teagen Hume.
