Bunyip prevails in battle of the Bulldogs

-

Phillip Island's reserves side fell victim to a stronger Bulldogs outfit in their semi final at Korumburra on Sunday.

A strong first quarter showing from both sides saw Bunyip take the lead by four points.

Both sides traded further goals in the second term, but by halftime the margin remained at four points, Bunyip's way.

Bunyip grew the margin in the third, kicking three more majors and ending the quarter 16 ahead. They extended the lead even further in the final term, despite Phillip Island adding two more majors to their tally.

The day finished with a 15-point Bunyip victory, ending Phillip Island's season. Bunyip will now take on Tooradin-Dalmore in the preliminary final. The winner of that game will face Koo wee rup in the big dance on September 7.

Brent Heus was best on ground for Bunyip. He was backed up by Brad Wolfe, Jake Buckingham, Adam Barton, Jesse Walsh and Robert Hughes.

Phillip Island's best man was Connor Thompson. James Spottiswood, Rodney McKenzie, Lachlan Cleeland, James Nicolaci and Seamus Murphy also received honourable mentions.

Koo wee rup booked their place in the reserves grand final on Saturday after overcoming Tooradin-Dalmore at Bass by 28 points at Korumburra.

The Dees steamrolled their opponents in the first term, notching up 18 points in the first term while keeping Tooradin-Dalmore to a solitary behind.

Things did not improve much for Tooradin in the second term. They managed to add another major and two behinds but not much else.

Koo wee rup also found scoring difficult, adding a major just before the main break.

But Koo wee rup really stepped on the gas in the third term, kicking three goals and growing their lead to 27 points.

Tooradin-Dalmore booted one more major in the final term. They finished the match 3.422 to Koo wee rup's 7.8-50.

Xavier Quigley was best on ground for the victors. He was backed up by the efforts of Lachlan Walden, Ryan Wilby, Jesse Cammarano, Matthew Cameron and Matthew Drommel.

Tooradin-Dalmore's best man was Ben Kelly with Peter Hannan, Mathew Sloper, James Wheeler, Adam Splatt and Jake Genoni also receiving honourable mentions.

The result means Koo wee rup will face the winner of Tooradin-Dalmore, who have a second chance, and Bunyip at Koo wee rup on Saturday.
