Hawks look forward to 2020

-

Drouin had wins in A and C grades in the last round as all teams eagerly look forward to season 2020.

A grade: Drouin Wonthaggi 37.

It was a good finish to the season for the Hawks with everyone in the A grade team having a great game.

It was nice to see the team end the season with a win after this team has struggled with injuries all year.

In attack, Stacie Gardiner shot very accurately and was just her steady self.

Down the court, everyone played well including Kym Diston, who was great in defence. She got heaps of turnovers and put lots of pressure on all game.

In the midcourt, Deb Thomas was great with her defensive pressure on the centre pass whilst Ruby Pratt and Alana Rippon gave great drive in attack.

All round, a good game by everyone. Bring on 2020. Award: Stacie Gardiner. B grade: Drouin 40 lost to Wonthaggi 48.

Just like A grade, this week was B grade’s turn to be hit by injuries.

Nevertheless, the girls on the team showed some real grit and versatility, adjusting to changes and working hard all game.

Each player showed confidence and an understanding of the game plan, keeping them in the game. There were just a few moments when “the wind changed” and unfortunately the Hawks couldn’t walk off with the win.

It has been a wonderful season for this very young B grade side – with exciting things to come.

Special mention to Abbey Tyrrell who played a great game in wing defence 68 defeated despite not being that far down the court in years. Award: Abbey Tyrrell. C grade: Drouin Wonthaggi 25.

The C grade girls came out strong and worked hard all game to push out their lead.

In some difficult goaling conditions, no matter the combination in the ring, Rachel Pullen, Courtney Miller and Emily Bethune worked hard to make the most of every opportunity.

The midcourt kept up the strong drive into attack and helped the goalers work around some very tall defenders.

In defence, Jess Murray and Georgia Henderson applied some wonderful pressure. In the final quarter, the side lost count of how many intercepts Jess got.

It was a real team effort and the girls were rewarded with a pleasing win to end the season.

Awards: Rachel Pullen and Jess Murray.

Under 17s: Drouin 17 Wonthaggi 45.

Drouin was up against a tall and strong Wonthaggi side in the last round.

The defenders battled hard all game against two strong top age goalers.

Drouin had plenty of the ball, however, couldn’t convert in the attack end.

Bailey Fleming got her wish to play goals for a quarter. It’s likely to be her first and last quarter in goals.

Overall, the girls had a fun last game to finish off an amazing season. This great bunch of girls have done the Hawks proud this season. Award: Sabine Lieshout Under 15s: Drouin 15 Wonthaggi 46. 35 defeated lost lost to to

It was a wonderful final game from the Hawks who displayed significant improvements in skill, determination and teamwork that they have built throughout the season.

A very proud coach praised the girls on their hard work week-in and weekout as well as their ability to enjoy every second of their time out on court.

The attack end played their best game of the season, with shooters Tess Mapleson and Holly Cheyne playing very smart netball. They used each other well and were very accurate.

In wing attack, Morgan Cook played brilliantly, with strong feeds into the ring, chasing up every loose ball and backing up her teammates all game.

This team came together in the second half and managed to achieve their equal highest score for the season.

Awards: Morgan Cook and Tess Mapleson.

Under 13s: Drouin 15 Wonthaggi 34.

In the final game of the season, it was fantastic to have a full side and finish with a solid score and performance.

It marks the end of a fantastic season for the 13s. Whilst they may not have had the most successful season according to the ladder, the improvements made from the beginning of the season to the end of the season are absolutely out of sight.

The Hawks improved on every scoreline the second time they faced teams as they improved both as a team and individually.

Overall, it was a season full of growth and personal success and fun.

Awards: Lainey Downie, Amy Boothe and Ella Kleeven. lost to
