Dusties regroup

-

The Warragul Industrials Women travelled to Beaconsfield on Saturday to play third-placed Frankston Bombers in the elimination final of the South East Women's League.

The girls were confident going into the game having previously defeated Frankston by five points at Western Park, but it was going to be a hardmatch as finals games are played at a high level for those trying to make it all the way to the grand final. A strong wind favoured one end of the ground with Frankston kicking with the wind for the first quarter and taking advantage of the wind, kicking two goals to Dusties no score in the first quarter.

The Dusties made numerous attempts in the second quarter, keeping possession in their forward 50 for the majority of the quarter, but a relentless Frankston defence was too good only allowing Warragul two behinds for the quarter. The third quarter saw the Dusties pick up somewhat with some hard tackling and defensive pressure that only saw Frankston kick a goal

and a number of point to give them 23-point lead at three quarter time. The Dusties having being in this position before knew they were able to come back in the last quarter as they did against Frankston in Round 9. Coach Shane Ingham reminded them of this, but it was going to be Frankston who out-played the Dusties side, with Sarah Burns the only goal kicker in the final term and Frankston winning 22 points in a fantastic game of women's finals football. The final score was Frankston 4.7-31 to Warragul Industrials 1.3-9. Goal Kickers: S. Burns. Best Players: A. Clerks, J. Kemp, J. Robertson, C. Maher, K. Llewellyn, R. Bicchierai. The Dusties will now focus on the 2020 season with planning already underway for pre-season and teams for the women's football department. Anyone

who is interested in playing Women's or Youth Girls football next year is encouraged to contact the Dusties or visit their webpage or Facebook pages for more information.
