Drouin seniors top of ladder

Great soccer was on display as Drouin travelled to Lang Lang with most teams still in the hunt for a finals berth. Lang Lang were very formidable opponents. This weekend is Drouin’s final round and it is being played at home against Mirboo North.

Drouin will host its “Country and Western Family Night” on Saturday at Bellbird Park with activities kicking off at 5pm.

There will be a bucking bull, face painting, jumping castle and monster raffle.

Entry is $5 which covers all activities. The canteen will be open.

Senior men’s: Drouin defeated Lang Lang 32.

Drouin played bottom of the table Lang Lang in what was expected to be a one-sided game.

Lang Lang came out fighting and took the half-time lead, 1-0.

Drouin fought back in the second half and, in the last 15 minutes, scored two late goals to finally get reward for possession. Men’s reserves: Drouin lost to Lang Lang 4-6. On the road in tough conditions, the Dragons started the game the better team, going 1-0 up from a Reece Harrison header.

Lang Lang soon found its way back in to equalise with a very lucky flick from a throw in.

Drouin kept its cool and maintained possession on the smaller than usual pitch to go in 32 up at half-time, with goals coming from Reece Harrison and Steven Smythe.

The second half, a little more physical than usual, saw plenty of injuries come into play. Jordan Carter scored a second half goal - his first of the season. However, Lang Lang once again quickly responded and proved too strong in the end.

It was the Drouin reserves first loss of the season.

Goals: Reece Harrison (two), Steven Smythe, Jordan Carter. Women’s: Drouin defeated Lang Lang 5-0. Drouin has come together with only one game left of the season. It was a great game by all players.

Rebecca Martin did an awesome job in goals, as always, whilst Jenni Quaife played her game and was everywhere she needed to be.

The defence held well and the attackers got in and got the ball up for the forwards.

Goals: Alison Dixon (two), Jenni Quaife, Rebekah Foulds, Melissa Dixon.

Special mention to Casey Lewis who finished the season a week early. The club wish you a speedy recovery.

Under 16 girls: Drouin defeated Lang Lang 76.

The girls were full of enthusiasm and ready to go at Lang Lang.

The game was a good contest, with plenty of goals scored by both sides.

All of the Dragon girls kept playing and pushing until the very end. They showed great teamwork and supported each other during the entire game.

Under 14 Gold: Drouin defeated Prom Coast 8-1.

The penultimat­e game of the league campaign saw Drouin Dragons U14B face off against Prom Coast at Bellbird Park on Sunday morning.

Drouin, looking to continue its good form in the lead up to finals, started with only 10 players, but rarely looked troubled during this match and ultimately secured three comfortabl­e points.

The Dragon's potent front three of James Short, Dylan Sotiropoul­os and Alexander Tabensky were dangerous throughout the contest but looked particular­ly sharp in the first half. They all found the back of the net thanks to constant movement and direct running.

Conor McCluskey also got in on the action, scoring a long range lob which was too high for the keeper.

However, the pick of the goals was a terrific curling finish by Short from the edge of the box, which ensured Drouin led 5-1 at halftime.

During the second half, the Dragons maintained a solid defence and kept up the pressure on Prom Coast’s keeper, scoring three more to round out the game 8-1.

The outstandin­g performanc­e of the game came from Tahj Osseweyer. Tahj played in an unfamiliar centre back position and was unbeatable throughout the match.

Goals: James Short (four), Dylan Sotiropoul­os (two), Alexander Tabensky, Conor McCluskey 1.

Under 14 Maroon: Drouin defeated Lang Lang 5-1.

It was a great game for Drouin at Lang Lang on Sunday morning. The weather was good and the sun was shining.

It was a tough match with an end-to-end game battle, but Drouin managed to get the win. It was a great way to finish the season and head into finals.

Goals: Tristan Silver (two), Nathan Beer, Rinnan Trenton and Darcy Kneebone. Under 10s: Drouin defeated Lang Lang 7-0. The U10s took on Lang Lang in brisk conditions.

Lang Lang put up a good fight, especially in the first half, against the Dragons who put in a stellar performanc­e in what was probably their best team performanc­e for the year.

This was not only seen on the scoreboard with a 7-0 scoreline but also witnessed in the play, with a number of good crosses and well taken corners resulting in goals.

With a good scoreline, there was also a wide range of goal scorers.

Remy Butler got four, Jack Carbonneau two and Dillon Jagoe, Kyen Lovell, Chase Smith and Dillon Jagoe all scored singles.

The Dragons also saw staunch defence from Hannah Munckhof and Corban Hall. Xavier Bail played his first game in goal and got off to an amazing start with a clean sheet.

Awards: Dillon Jagoe, Chase Smith, Xavier Bail. Under 8s: Drouin travelled to Lang Lang. Although the weather wasn't looking great, the kids were ready to go.

Adam went out the gates like a horse in the Melbourne Cup. He was very attacking, gaining many possession­s and passing the ball off to his teammates.

Cal was strong, running the ball down and putting some balls in the net whilst his sister Emma also played a great game, scoring her first goal of the season.

Audrey played well, assisting Emma with her goal and trying her hand at goalkeeper in the second half. She made some great saves.

William was also very attacking and determined to put a ball in the net. He was successful in doing so.

Spencer played a cracker game. He spent the first half in goal keeper and got his hands to the ball many times as well as passing off some great goal kicks.

Jas also scored a few goals this week. She playing very well, using her body to defend the ball and move down the field.

Castro was back after a holiday and playing a great game, getting into defence mode and clearing the ball out to the side to put Lang Lang under pressure.

Well done to all the kids for playing a fantastic game and showing great sportsmans­hip. Coaches Award: Adam Knegt Encouragem­ent Award: Audrey and Castro. Under 6s: Three brave young Dragons travelled to Lang Lang, more in hope than expectatio­n.

The home team was kind enough to lend a player and the gruesome threesome became the awesome foursome.

A boisterous match ensued with Drouin making the early running. However, after halftime things were much more even.

Zack impressed throughout, earning himself the coaches award. Claire and Maeve provided great support, when they weren’t dancing with each other.
