Wissmer and Creighton storm home in Fun Run

-

Ryan Wissmer and Stella Creighton have taken out the prized Geoff Watt Fun Run half marathon which was held last Saturday in trying conditions.

With a cold spell passing through, runners had to endure some wind and rain throughout the run, but Wissmer and Creighton pushed through, finishing on top in their respective categories. Wissmer crossed the 21km mark line in 1 hour and 17 minutes, while Pete Cutler finished second five minutes behind. Daniel Pratt crossed in third, finishing +9:13 behind the winner Wissmer to round out the podium for the men.

Stella Creighton skipped away along the 21km journey to cross the line and take out top honours in both the half marathon and 40+ half marathon events, as Rebecca Michau came in second +4:13 behind, while Martine Holberton finished third +11:28 off the pace.

The Creighton name again popped up in the day, with Shaun Creighton topping the charts in the 10K Men’s Open race as well as the 10K Men’s 40+ event with a 36:11, and Sarah Lewis topped the female race with a 43:47 to be almost three minutes ahead of second and third place getters Kay Frost and Charlie Norris.

Heath Morgan-Morris flew around the five-kilometre circuit, winning the event with a time of 22:11, just ahead of Dave Mann and Archer Thorne who also made quick work of the route. Heath was quick, but it was Molly Irvine who took the title of the fastest 5K time, with an incredible 21:19, almost five minutes ahead of second place getter Olivia Thorne and third placed Melissa Ronchetti.

It was another day full of fun and prizes, despite the colder conditions, the fancydress competition was again a hit with a prize for the best dressed given away on the day. A big thankyou to the Latrobe Valley Authority, Baw Baw Shire and all the volunteers for helping make the 2019 Geoff Watt Memorial Fun Run and Festival a success this year.
