Longwarry inside top four

-

Longwarry recorded its second consecutive win to move inside the top four on the division one ladder.

The division one team were fortunate to be playing under the roof at Morwell as terrible weather was experienced outside.

Longwarry won two of the four rinks to get over the line by eight shots. The division six bowlers were unfortunately rained off after completing 15 ends.

Division one: Longwarry 16/102 defeated Morwell 4/94.

Elio Meggetto, Judy Eastwell, Kenneth Towt and Barry White (skip) defeated Nathan Cook’s team 27/14.

This rink played consistent team bowls from the very start. They increased their lead throughout the day to record a great 13-shot win.

Brian Hennessy, Mark Serong, Hank Metselarr and Russell White (skip) defeated Wayne Bishop’s team 32/15.

Longwarry made a great start to be 10/0 by end six. Morwell made some slight inroads to the scoreline before the break but, after tea, Longwarry continued to play consistent team bowls to record a great 17-shot win.

Glenn Pask, Jason Lieshout, Ken White, and Slim Eastwell (skip) lost to David Cook’s team 27/34.

Longwarry was five shots down after end five before picking up 16 shots in the next seven ends for a seven-shot lead at the break.

Longwarry was still seven shots in the lead by end 18, but then the game totally changed. Morwell totally outplayed the Longwarry boys by winning the last seven ends to win by seven shots.

Grant Pask, Brad Peterson, Ian Peterson and John McCarthy (skip) lost to Keith Gadsby’s team 16/31.

Scores were even after seven ends. However, Longwarry dropped eight of the next nine ends, continually struggling to build good numbers and leaving too much work for the skip. They lost by 15 shots.

Division six: Longwarry (2) versus Morwell Club (3) was washed out.

With both rinks only playing 15 ends each before the wash out, Vicki Hanks’ rink was having a great battle to be one shot up.

Team “Hogg”, after being 1/8 down, made a great comeback to be 21/11 up before the rain settled in.

Warragul Bowling Club had a better day in round three of WGBD pennant on Saturday with one team winning, one drawing and one losing.

Division two: Warragul defeated Garfield 97/90.

John Vickerman, Ken Scammell, Janette Gallasch and Andrew Glover defeated Alan White’s team 28/27. Ian Belling, David Alderman, Peter Gallasch and Clive Padgham defeated Nick Henwood’s team 23/21. Kerrie Currie, Des Stephens, Jim Moyle and Graeme Davis defeated Tom Cleary’s team 25/11. Ken Landman, David Ferguson, Pat Hammond and Bill Clappers lost to Stephen Whyte’s team 21/31.
