Compelling guitar

-

Wesley of Warragul will welcome fine music followers to hear renowned classical guitarist Karin Schaupp perform on Sunday at 2.30pm.

This is the final concert of the 2019 “Simply Music” program at Wesley of Warragul.

In a rare solo concert, Karin will perform compelling narrative works and beloved musical treasures, both old and new.

Karin is an outstanding guitarist on the international scene. In her teens, she won prestigious international prizes in Italy and Spain, and is today sought after internationally as a recitalist, soloist and festival guest.

Karin has collaborated with the world’s top performers and in 2017 won an Aria for her third album with singer Katie Noonan, “Songs of The Latin Skies”.

The first half of Sunday’s program will feature a Guadagnini replica guitar built by Simon Roves-Herman, allowing audiences to hear repertoire by Mertz, Giuliani and Regondi on romantic guitar.

In the second half, Karin will perform more recent repertoire on her modern Jim Redgate guitar, including an evocative work written for her by Mary Doumany “Portraits of Four Australian Women”, in which Karin speaks and plays simultaneously. She will also perform works by Paul Stanhope,

Phil Houghton and Nikita Koshkin, all of which are based on strong narratives.

Tickets are $45 for general, $41 for concession and free for students.

For bookings, contact the West Gippsland Arts Centre box-office on 5624 2456 or visit wgac.com.au.

Tickets can also be purchased at the door of Wesley of Warragul from 2pm on Sunday.
