Washout in WGBD

-

West Gippsland Bowls Division Saturday pennant was affected for the third week in a row with wet weather.

The previous two weeks were wild, windy, cold wet days; however, Saturday was quite warm and no breeze.

The western end of the division had steady rain throughout the morning and were unable to start playing even though many teams waited in vain for the rain to stop.

At Newborough, division one started against Trafalgar but were soon rained off. They resumed play after a short break only to be rained off for the day shortly after.

At Traralgon RSL, it was similar to Newborough and Traralgon RSL and Morwell abandoned play due to the conditions.

The only meaningful game was at Traralgon. Traralgon held a good lead over Morwell Club before calling the game off after realising that with only one game completed the results would not count. There needs to be at least two games completed in division one for results to count.

Prior to the abandonment, Jim Scullin of Traralgon was in a tight battle with Brett Harle of Morwell Club leading 19/16, Matt Ferrari of Traralgon was leading 18/12 against Leigh McKenzie of Morwell Club, Wayne Lynch of Traralgon was trailing John Millier of Morwell Club 11/19, however, Ian Kirkup of Traralgon was leading 27/3 against David Stevens of Morwell Club.

Next week in Saturday pennant is the last round prior to the week off for the Victorian Open played at Bendigo.

It will see the two unbeaten teams in division one - Traralgon and Newborough - doing battle at Traralgon. With strong rivalry between these two strong teams over recent years, this match should be a cracker.

Morwell Club is home to Drouin, Traralgon RSL is home to the big improvers Longwarry who have shown good form away from home in recent weeks, whilst the final match is between Trafalgar and Morwell.
