Age is no barrier for Julia

-

Julia Price has been an artist for as long as her family can remember.

Now 90-years-old, Julia will show age is no barrier as she teams with son-in-law Sidney Somerville-Smith to present “An Introspective Retrospective” opening on Sunday.

The exhibition at the West Gippsland Arts Centre will feature 28 of Julia’s artworks and 22 pieces from Sidney.

Julia, who lives in both Warragul and Korumburra, has always been an artist. She remembers being just 12-years-old when she created portraits of her younger sisters.

“I am a singer and a love of the arts just came along with that,” she said.

However, art became more prominent when Julia started a family and “I could do that at home with my children”.

Now a mother of four, grandmother of 18 and great-grandmother of eight, Julia is looking forward to sharing her love of art spanning 50 years with family, friends and community.

Julia invited Sidney to join in this exhibition after his lifelong involvement with the arts in many different forms.

Creating art since childhood, Sidney has worked as a graphic artist and was heavily involved in the 80s music scene creating posters, covers and even a rock n roll magazine titled “Tag”.

As well as a retrospective, Sidney will exhibit new works inspired by recent trips to France and Georgia.

The exhibition is now open to the public at the West Gippsland Arts Centre foyer on weekdays and during events until January 24. The official opening will be held on Sunday from 2pm to 5pm.
