220 years service from seven people
More than 220 years of combined service is a huge contribution for only seven people to make to their community.
Incredibly that’s the amount of time Willow Grove Recreation Reserve Committee of Management members David Balfour (47 years), Bill Taylor (40 years), Ron Mether (37 years), Max Roberts (31 years), Hank Fiddelaers (28 years), Norm Mether (22 years) and Denis Cervi (16 years) have spent serving their community.
They were presented with certificates of recognition by the Department of Environment, Land Water and Planning (DELWP) at the recreation reserve’s new netball/tennis pavilion last month.
The entire committee of management was also recognised for outstanding contribution to the local community.
DELWP’s acting regional manager land and built environment Pat Lambert said: “What an amazing contribution from these dedicated volunteers to their community.
“We value our committees of management enormously as custodians of local public assets like halls and recreation reserves – they put in so much time, effort and expertise into making sure these facilities are maintained and available for all to use and enjoy,” Mr Lambert said.
“The Willow Grove Recreation Reserve is a credit to this committee, with some huge achievements over the past few years, including a new netball and tennis pavilion, an irrigation system for the oval and a walking track connecting the reserve with the Blue Rock dam.
“Their long-term plan has many more projects in the pipeline, maintaining and improving this community asset for the local and broader community.
“We’re all so lucky to have people like this in our communities and they all thoroughly deserve the recognition through this program.”
