Rampaging Bunyip score easy victory

- By Adam Johnson

Division five:

Bunyip continued its dominance in round nine with an easy win over Catani.

Neerim District firmed as a premiership contender with its fourth win on the trot while Yarragon took out a hard-fought win over Jindivick. Warragul Gulls and Western Park each had a bye.

Round 10 will see the competition reduced to eight sides with the Warragul Red team being withdrawn.

Stags time chase

as the visitors closed in on victory.

A late cameo from Sam Graziotin (11*) saw his side across the line. Earlier in the day Thomas Wans (54 retired) top scored for the Hawks with Andrew Downie the next highest with 22.

Matt Willis made scoring difficult against the new ball, snaring 2-12 off eight overs.

Tight tussle

Yarragon has posted back-to-back wins after narrowly defeating Jindivick.

Set a challenging target, the Panthers started out with good intent as Carlo Ierfone slashed his way to 34.

Wickets began to fall in bunches as the Jumping Jacks clawed their way into the contest. But an anchoring innings from Steve Green (47) was enough to get the home side across the line.

It was a similar story in the Jindivick innings with only two batsmen making significant contributions.

Mick Dixon top scored with an unbeaten 50 and Jamie Lehman chimed in with 37 before retiring hurt.

Chris Wallace (2-9), Henry Allsop (229), and Brett Pyle (2-10) shared in the wickets.

Bulls charging

Catani was no match for a rampaging Bunyip as the Cats struggled through their 40 overs to post just 102.

Brayden Hall’s 30 not out (batting at 10) was vital to the home side’s total, as only Matt Coleman (25) was able to reach double figures.

Alexander Squires (2-13) was the only multiple wicket taker as three runouts took their toll on the batting line-up.

In reply, Peter Duffus blasted five fours and two sixes to reach 51 retired in even time.

Jake Stewart batted in a similar fashion, with five fours and one six. He chimed in with 30 not out as the Bulls reached the target in just 16 overs.

Ryan Smith claimed both wickets.
