Athletes compete for Lardner Games crown

-

The Lardner Games kicked off for the fourth year in a row at Lardner Park last month.

The games is an event run by Lardner Movement, a community and family day aimed at inspiring the local community to get outdoors and moving.

The day itself is an individual male and female competition that tests athletes in many different elements of fitness over five events that change each year, crowning the fittest male and female of Lardner each year.

This year the events consisted of running, Olympic lifting, gymnastics, sprint and obstacle courses, paddle boarding, rowing, mountain bike riding, kettle bells, rope climbs and much more, giving the athletes the chance to show their stuff.

This year in both their first ever games appearances, two individuals from Sale took home the titles.

In the male category it was Davey Mayall who came out on top, while in the female category it was Linley Bertachinni who took home the crown with a dominant performance.

Lardner Movement also recognises two other noteworthy awards, the Froning Bull, which acknowledges the most impressive, give everything in effort and the spirit of the games, which includes great sportsmanship, positive vibes, and holds true to the values of Lardner Movement.

The winners of these were Ash Diston, who took home the Froning Bull after her impressive effort in winning the first event, while Dusty Ravenhorst won the spirit of the games award on the day, continuing to smile through the pain of competition and encouraging others along the way.

The Lardner Games originated on a small farm in Lardner with 15 attendees in 2016, this year the Lardner Games had more than 200 people and 27 athletes, showcasing that the true aim to get people moving and outdoors is well and truly working.
