Safety upgrades
Some of the region’s most dangerous roads and intersections are set for an improvement, with more than $226 million in upgrades to be rolled out across Gippsland next year.
It’s all a part of the Andrews governments $1.4 billion dollar towards zero strategy, which is aiming to improve the road infrastructure and reduce the road toll around Victoria.
The Bloomfield Road/No 1 Rd intersection is first up, with safety improvements being made by upgrading signs, removing trees that block vision and new line marking to guide drivers in poor weather conditions.
A second part of Bloomfield Rd is also on the agenda, with the Bloomfield Rd/Old Sale Rd intersection also looking at an upgrade, with the removal and replacement of signs including advance warning signs on both the east and west approach, as well as line marking with stop signs and a speed limit reduction to 80km/h within 400m of the main road.
The Darnum-Allambee Rd at the Bona Vista and Parkers Rd intersection has been upgraded with safety improvements. The speed limit will be permanently reducied on all approaches to 80 km/h, as well as the installation of warning signs and the trimming of vegetation at the intersection.
Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing welcomed the upgrades, while also explaining that at this time of year, it’s imperative to take care on the roads during the busy holiday season that is fast approaching.
“We’re continuing our strong investment into road safety infrastructure next year with another package of upgrades to get underway across Gippsland.” she said.
The upgrades are set to be completed throughout next year.
