Nilma students win advert award
Nilma Primary School students have won a national competition as part of the Cows Create Careers program.
The MaxCare “design an advertisement challenge” was ran in conjunction with this year’s Cows Create Careers.
As part of the partnership, Cows Create Careers and MaxCare offered schools and students across Australia an exciting opportunity to produce a full page A4 advertisement to be used for marketing purposes.
The school won $1000 for its advertisement designed by students.
MaxCare business manager Tom Newton said the Cows Create Careers program was fantastic.
“It shines a light on our great industry and the opportunities that exist and shows kids a clear pathway into how they can have a career in the dairy industry.”
The Cows Create Careers program was started by the Strzelecki Lions Club in Gippsland, Victoria in 2004 and has now grown to a national program. Since 2006 the project has been supported by Dairy Australia, Regional Development Programs, dairy farmers and sponsors.
It has now grown to 259 schools across Australia with more than 14,200 students completing the project in 2018.
It is run in 23 dairy regions across Australia and involves more than 530 volunteers.
Through the farm module project, students learnt about dairy industry careers in a very hands-on way. For three weeks they reared and cared for two three-week old calves.
Each participating school is provided with dairy industry curriculum, at no cost.
A local dairy farmer teaches the students how to care for the calves, while an industry advocate visits the students to speak about their career in the dairy industry.
Students are required to form teams to complete assessments based on the dairy industry.
