Hui sets marathon record

On a warm sunny Sunday morning over 300 runners lined up across various starting points in the region to take part in the fifth annual Hallora marathon, with records broken throughout the day.

Tim Hui took out the 42km marathon race, with an exceptiona­l time of 3:03:24, with Darren Jeffreys just four minutes behind Tim, while Nick Pratt took out third place with a 3:24:01 effort for the mens, while Connie Schroder posted a fantastic 3:39:30 to take victory in the women’s race followed by Serena Zienau and Rosemary Code.

Daniel Pratt, the event organiser said that Tim had an outstandin­g race, now owning the record for this particular course.

“Tim Hui definitely broke the record for this course” said Mr Pratt, “It was a great effort”

In the 24km event, Michael Eury broke the record on his way to a 1:41:25 victory on the day, with Ryan Claxton in a close second, posting 1:44:39, with the Pratt name again in third place, this time being Paul, coming in at 1:48:11.

Belle Campbell lead the way for the women in the 24km event, with a 2:01:47, followed by Ellie Stubbs and Hayley Sillekens.

In the 16km men’s event, Anthony Arrowsmith crossed the line first, followed by Jesse Putrisma and Damian King, while in the women’s race Kay Frost took the top honours, followed by Caroline Weatherhea­d and Amy Harrison.

Sam White crossed in first position in the 8km race, with Zach Jacobs in second and Paul Sheehan in third, while Kate Symes, Emily Hart and Molly Irvine made up the podium for the women.

Craig Byrnes ran at almost a sprint to take out the 5km race in just over 19 minutes, while Steph Staple took only 26 minutes to complete the course to lead the women.

Overall, the event has raised $6700 for the Peter Mac Foundation, with donations open for one more week before being presented to the foundation on behalf of the marathon.
