Longwarry bounce back

Longwarry’s top team hosted Morwell Club on Saturday and won three of the four rinks for a comfortabl­e 18-shot win.

The win tightens their grip on third place on the ladder in a very even division one competitio­n.

Division six hosted Newborough and cemented their place on top of the ladder with a close three-shot win.

Division one: Longwarry 18/99 defeated Morwell Club 2/81.

Elio Meggetto, Judy Eastwell, Kenneth Towt and Barry White (skip) defeated Leigh McKenzie’s team 25/22.

Longwarry got out to a good start to be sixshots up by end nine. Morwell fought back to even the game by end 15. The last 10 ends were very close, with Longwarry going into the last end one shot down. They picked up a four to win by three shots in a great game.

Brian Hennessy, Mark Serong, Hank Metselaar and Russell White (skip) defeated Brian Hanle’s team 28/14.

Longwarry was well on top for the majority of the game, winning 12 of the first 15 ends to take a 16-shot lead. Morwell won six of the last 10 ends, but Longwarry’s great start earned them the team of the day with a 14-shot win.

Glenn Pask, Grant Pask, Jason Lieshout and

Slim Eastwell (skip) lost to Dave Steven’s team 22/24.

In another game which had big momentum swings, Morwell won the first five ends. Longwarry won the next eight to lead 14/5, before Morwell came back to be only two shots down going into the last end. Unfortunat­ely, Longwarry dropped a four to go down by two shots.

Ken White, Simon Counsel, Ian Peterson and John McCarthy (skip) defeated John Millier’s team 24/21.

This game was played in two halves, with Longwarry dominating early and getting out to a 12-shot lead. Morwell came back to even the scores at end 23. Longwarry won the last two ends for a three-shot win.

Division six: Longwarry (2) 8/48 defeated Newborough (5) 2/45.

Sharon Twite, Brian Mason, Sean Garrity and Gerard “Hog” Mitchell (skip) lost to Betty William’s team 23/24.

In a tight game, only a couple of shots separated the two sides all day, with Betty and Gerard having a ding-dong battle. Newborough won by one shot.

Reg Dunn, Ron Sutton, Graeme Hanks and Vicki Hanks (skip) defeated Joan Lee’s team 25/21.

In another tight game early, Longwarry picked up 14 shots in five ends from end 12 to set up a four-shot win.
