Barnes and Maher impress in victory

- By Joel Batson

Division two:

Garfield-Tynong 117 lost to Western Park 2/140:

A brilliant partnership from Jack Barnes and Travis Maher has seen Western Park comfortably defeat GarfieldTynong away from home.

Resuming on 1-17, requiring just over 100 to win, Barnes and Maher quickly went to work, stymieing the potent pace duo of Davis McConnell (1-37) and Sayeed Shah (1-37), both rapidly accelerating the run rate as the chase wore on.

The pair added 134, with Maher (52) ultimately succumbing to Shah once the chase was completed. Barnes (68*) was cruelly denied a maiden ton by his skipper as play was closed with Western Park 2-140.

Ellinbank 76 lost to Iona 303: Iona has resigned Ellinbank to the bottom of the ladder with a thumping victory on the weekend.

Defending 303, Iona was far from ever troubled by the struggling Eagles, as Wade Haysom (533) and Kieran Lenders (3-26) made light work of their inexperienced opponents.

Only senior batsmen Jeremy Gray (21) made any meaningful contribution for Ellinbank on their home turf, as they were rolled for just 76, with the Swamp Tigers climbing into the top two with the victory.

Catani 189 defeated Longwarry 99:

Catani's potent bowling attack has destroyed Longwarry to help the Blues remain on top of the ladder.

Defending a par-score of 189, Catani showed why they are almost unbeatable at the moment, as former Drouin quick Daniel

Glover (3-13) had his way with the Longwarry top-order, the swinging ball the oracle for the home side who quickly found their way into the Crows' tail.

Tyler Molloy (2-30) backed up his performance with the bat from last week with a tight spell, as Longwarry fell to 99 all out, ultimately miles short of where they needed to be.

Drouin 159 lost to Jindivick 8/210:

Jindivick continued its string of victories, accounting for Drouin in an ominous display at Bellbird Park.

Defending 210, Jindivick's depth in its bowling attack shone through all day with four bowlers Tharindu Siriwardhana (3-20), Dananjaya Madushanka (2-19), Jeff Reid (2-30) and Jordan Smith (2-25) - showing their worth to strangle Drouin.

The experienced Nick Harper (31) tried his best to ward off the onslaught, however, the chase proved too much as they were reduced to just 159.

Warragul 9/251

Hallora 8/194:

Warragul's explosive batting lineup gave them a much-needed victory over rivals Hallora.

Chasing 195 for victory, Tyler Constantine (77) continued his domination this season with a magnificent knock and was significantly aided by skipper Josh Wright's classy 61. The pair would add 112 for the third wicket.

A late collapse caused by Alex Henshall (2-27) and Brayden Notman (2-53) gave Hallora a slim chance. Thankfully for the Gulls, long-time servant Nathan MacFarlane (35) was on hand to guide his side home with three wickets remaining and had pushed the score to 9-251 by the close of play. defeated
