Classy Warriors get win

- By Zac Wright

Under 16s:

Jindivick versus Western Park: The Jumping Jacks and Warriors played a one dayer and it came down to the wire.

With the Warriors batting first, they showed class as Matt Roberts and Liam O’Connor both reached 25 not out to help stabilise the batting order and get to a very solid total of 5/148.

In reply, Crows recruit and captain Daniel Pullen filled in made an impact, making 27 not out at the top of the order, as he and Xavier Van Langenberg (25*) pushed the Jumping Jacks closer to victory. Once they retired, the Warriors bowling attack tied down the rest of the batting order and restricted them enough so neither one of the two retired batsmen could come back in. They finished stranded on 6/104, falling short in a great game of cricket.

Ellinbank versus Hallora:

The Kangas had the upper hand after week one as they easily dispatched the Eagles bowling attack.

Batting first, a good start from both openers helped set the platform, as Liam Serong (59*), Andrew Burdett (58*), Alex Henshall (59*) and Brock Walsh (50*) all took it to the Eagles bowling attack.

A late effort from Jacob Kleeven (30*) helped the Kangas reach one of the highest junior scores ever with a monstrous 2/314 up on the board.

In the second week of play, the Eagles got a lot closer than expected. Young gun and captain Bryce Joyce blasted 82* in what was a batting masterclass, but it was only he and Matt Atherton (33*) that provided resistance for the Eagles batting order.

Brayden Notman took 3/7, to help hand the Kangas a big win, as the Eagles finished with 9/180.

Neerim District/Yarragon versus Garfield Tynong:

Neerim District/Yarragon emerged with the advantage after week one of play against the mighty Titans.

Bowling first, two early wickets saw the pressure on the Titans, as losing wickets in bunches became an issue.

Carter Davis (28*) was the only resistance for the Titans as they got rolled for an under-par total of 74.

With the bat, Neerim District/Yarragon put themselves in a good position to take the game away from the Titans in week two as they finished with 2/35.

Neerim District/Yarragon then went on to victory after a big batting display in week two. Starting the day two down wasn’t easy, as they lost an early wicket. However, a 72-run partnership from Vinnie Caia (55) and Sam Graziotin (28*) help solidify a big total for their side, as they finished with 9/187, comprehensively winning and emerging as flag favourites.
