Titans come out firing

- By Zac Wright

Under 14s:

Garfield-Tynong versus Yarragon:

The Panthers’ stars were shining again against the Titans.

Batting first, a good start from skipper and opener Ben Allsop (33) got them off to a flyer, before Liam Smith-Butterworth came to the crease and made the Titans bowling attack pay for bowling any bad deliveries.

He finished with 43 not out, helping the Panthers get to a good total of 6/130.

In reply, the Titans come out firing with the bat, as the top order delivered. Opener Aaron Braaksma set the tone early making 27, before Archer Burgmann (38) and Jake Van Den Berghe (37*) really helped the Titans in the right direction.

They got over the line with four overs to spare, finishing 9/142 in an unbelievably tight game of cricket.

Bunyip/Catani versus Ellinbank:

Bunyip/Catani continue to prove to the competition that they have improved, this time against the might of the Eagles.

Bowling first, they kept nearly every Eagles batsman under double digits, as good line and length kept the pressure on the batsmen. However, Will Auldist (44*) was the reason why the Eagles got to a defendable total, helping his side to 117.

With the bat in hand, Bunyip/Catani had to face a tricky seven overs of Eagles’ bowling, in the process only losing one wicket, finishing with 1/6 after week one.

During week two, Bunyip/Catani got close, but it wasn’t enough to get over the gritty Eagles side. The Eagles as a team bowled a total of 13 maidens out of 46 overs of cricket played. This really put the pressure on any batsman that came to the crease, with none getting past the 20 mark, which made it difficult to chase down the total handed to them.

Bunyip/Catani finished with 7/72, falling short by 45 runs, proving that they are now becoming far more competitive with some of the top dogs in the league.

Drouin versus Western Park:

The Hawks had the upper hand after the first week of play against the Warriors.

Batting first, in-form opener Seb Amoroso got them off to a good start, making 36 not out. Musa Faisal Wahid posted a career high total of 36, really helping the Hawks to a good total.

Tom Fawcett bowled tight all day, bowling four maidens in his five and a half overs, taking 3/5, as Drouin finished on 154.

However, the match was called a draw after no play was able to take place during week two. Buln Buln/Hallora versus Warragul:

The Gulls came away dominant after week one against Buln Buln/Hallora and needed to keep up that form to take home the victory.

Bowling first, the Gulls kept constant pressure on them with good bowling. Deklan Majcherzak (3/10) was the pick of the bowlers. No batsman from Buln Buln/Hallora had an answer, as they posted a sub-par total of 93.

In the second week of play, Warragul came out victorious with 10 overs to spare. A big partnership of 65 from Darsh Patel (36*) and Rylan Berryman (26) were vital in getting them over the line. After they fell, Buln Buln/Hallora started to take the remaining batsman down quickly, with six wickets lost in the space of 38 runs. They managed to pass the score, however, finishing on 8/138 and taking home an important victory.
