Bunyip still on top despite first loss

- By Adam Johnson

ADivision five:

Bunyip remain at the top of the division five ladder despite suffering its first loss of the season at the hands of Warragul.

Top two shoot out

Sent in by the home side, the Bulls were in trouble early, struggling at 4-28. Good starts from Scott Squires (21) and Mat Dare (26) offered some hope of a respectable total, but the Gulls maintained the pressure as wickets continued to fall.

Jerry Whibley found the best form of defence was attack, striking seven fours and one six before being left stranded on 38 not out.

Vaneet Singh kicked things off with a tidy 211 off five overs, with good support from Chandan Ahuja 2-35. Pardeep Singh cleaned up late with 2-12.

In response, Amandeep Singh and Vaneet Singh made a blistering start, despatching the bowlers to all parts of the ground. Amandeep struck nine fours and one six before retiring not out on 60, while Vaneet cleared the rope three times before falling for 49.

With the bulk of the work done, Jimmy Atwal (14 not out) and Paul Singh (11 not out) provided brief cameos as the Gulls reached the target after just 23 overs.

Graziotin has helped his side to a big win over Jindivick.

Chasing a small target, Graziotin (63 retired not out) and Anthony McCann (43) wasted little time erasing the deficit, with the Stags only needing 19 overs to secure victory.

Earlier in the day, Jindivick gave a credible performance with several batsmen making good starts. Michael Dixon top scored with 24, while Tim Moore (22) and Ant Maguire (21) provided good support.

Wickets were evenly spread, with Lachlan Willis (2-19) and Brad Fusinato (2-18) the pick of the bowlers.

Cats claw Hawks

Catani has taken the points in a well contested match with Drouin.

Choosing to bat first on their home turf, the Cats set a solid foundation with the top three all contributing. Nathaniel Wade (33) and Brayden Hall (32) were in the action early, before Danny Brewster (54 retired not out) provided valuable runs in the middle order.

Brad Cross did the early damage, claiming 448, while Andrew Downie tidied up late with 4-18 off four overs.

In reply, the Hawks struggled early before a solid partnership from Jayden Bibby (32) and Brad Cross (26) got the scoreboard ticking. Kym Osseweyer chimed in with a timely 40 but with a depleted line-up the target proved too great.

Nathaniel Wade was the pick of the bowlers, snaring 3-27.
