Book now for Drouin’s Australia Day breaky

-

Bookings will soon close for Drouin’s 41st Australia Day Breakfast to be held at the Anglican Parish Hall.

The breakfast on Sunday, January 26 at 7.30am is a free event, but bookings are essential.

The breakfast is conducted by the Drouin Rotary Club on behalf of Baw Baw Shire Council, with catering provided by the Drouin Branch of the Country Women’s Association (CWA).

This year’s guest speaker will be Longwarry resident and well-known identity Russell Ford. His topic will be “Volunteering in Australia”. Russell is president of the Longwarry and District History Group, community relations officer for the Longwarry sub-branch of the RSL, president-elect of Drouin Rotary Club, and a regular presenter on community radio 3BBR-FM.

He was instrumental in the renaming of the railway park to “Longwarry Memorial Park” where the war memorial cenotaph now stands, and its re-dedication to mark the centenary of the cenotaph, leading to a subsequent visit by the Governor of Victoria.

Russell also was the coordinator of a Drouin catering group working regularly at Bunyip in support of the BlazeAid volunteers involved in the recovery process following the Bunyip Complex bushfires early last year.

Entertainment at the breakfast will be provided by the Warragul Municipal Band, under the leadership of bandmaster Benjamin Sim and local musician and vocalist Alan Tatlow.

Bookings close on Tuesday, January 21, unless previously fully booked.

Seats at the breakfast may be reserved by calling 5624 2411 or visiting the Baw Baw Shire civic centre in Drouin or service centre in Warragul.
