Inaugural Quilt Show

-

Abbey Gardens Aged Care will hold its inaugural Quilt Show in Warragul on Saturday, January 18.

Raising money to support resident lifestyle activities, the Quilt Show will run from 10am to 3pm at the Tarwin St centre.

The brainchild of volunteer Lo Bjorksten, who has been teaching quilting and patchwork at the care home for more than two years, will demonstrate the talent of Abbey Gardens residents as well as those from local community members and quilting groups.

Lo has encouraged residents to join the quilting groups and now many enjoy sewing their patchwork quilts in a friendly group setting.

Along with many years of experience with quilting and patchwork, Lo has a great love for people and sharing her life and life’s work with others.

The quilting group meets in the café area and has made quilts for every season and holiday, including Easter, winter, spring and recently Christmas. These are proudly displayed on the walls of the Abbey Garden Community.

The patchwork and quilting women enjoy the social aspects of the group as well as sharing their love of stitching and working together to create beautiful patchwork projects as a team.

Wheelchair-bound resident Nicole said, “the quilting group means that that I can be with people and sew with each other. I love it!”

For 70-year-old Lynne, the quilting group means “relaxation, friendship, being able to sew again and to learn new things”.

They are both looking forward to the quilt show and to see what the local quilting community will contribute.

Admission to the Quilt Show is $5 per person. Please park at the Western Park football ground or church next door. A shuttle bus will be running between both parking areas to Abbey Gardens.
