Drama talent on display
A talented ensemble of young performers from across Victoria will present family adventure “The Grumpiest Boy in the World” in Warragul on Saturday, January 18 and Sunday, January 19.
Created in just one week as part of the Theatrecraft Youth Unlimited (TYU) summer camp, this show will highlight the talents of locals and those from further afield.
“The Grumpiest Boy in the World” will be performed at the West Gippsland Arts Centre on Saturday, January 18 at 7pm and Sunday, January 19 at 2pm and 7pm.
It tells of Zachary Briddling, the averagest boy in the world, and how it makes him grumpy. As a result, he sets out to stand out.
It is a celebration of ordinariness and extraordinariness - and the grumpiness that comes from thinking we have too much of one and not enough of the other.
Led by Joanne Watt, TYU is a residential summer camp for aspiring young stage performers.
Joanne said the primary aim of such an opportunity is to build skills, confidence, familiarity with ensemble work and participate in a final performance that has been the product of collating lots of information, skills, processes and varying styles of performance.
Two young participants, Frances Brunton from Mirboo North and Gabby Rota from Bunyip, are recipients of scholarships from the Baw Baw Arts Alliance, a not-for-profit collective of artists committed to seeing the development of skills in all the arts.
The scholarships are designed to help pay the cost of TYU’s summer activity. As both Frances and Gabby are still at school, the scholarships guaranteed their participation.
Frances, aged 16, is about to commence year 11 at Mirboo North Secondary College and is studying studio art and visual communication.
Gabby is currently at Nossal High School and is in year 11 in 2020. Gabby would love to be able to mentor other young dramatists in the future.
Tickets to “The Grumpiest Boy in the World” are $15 for adults and $13 for members and groups.
