Therese leads Gippsland PHN

A leading health executive in Gippsland has been appointed to lead the Gippsland Primary Health Network.

Therese Tierney, who succeeds Dr Sinead de Gooyer as chair, has had more than 40 years’ experience in the health sector. She has held chief executive officer and senior management roles in both metropolit­an and regional settings across the private and public health sectors, including local government.

Ms Tierney moved to East Gippsland 13 years ago and retired in 2018 from her role as CEO of Bairnsdale Regional Health.

Ms Tierney is currently the chair of East Gippsland Water, on the board of Omeo District Health and was chair of East Gippsland Marketing Inc in 2018/19. She is also the former chair of the Continence Foundation of Australia and was in the past appointed to the Victorian Health Innovation Reform Council and the Victorian Expert Panel on Aboriginal Health. She currently assists organisati­ons in strategic planning, change management and governance.

As a member of the Gippsland PHN Board since March 2018, Ms Tierney paid tribute to Dr de Gooyer who has led the board for the last three years.

“Sinead has led our organisati­on during a period of significan­t growth and change, and showed relentless energy in pursuit of our vision for a measurably healthier Gippsland,” Ms Tierney said.

Two new directors have also been appointed to replace Duncan Malcolm and Mark Biggs who have retired from the board. The new directors are Melissa Bastian and Dr Peter Trye who have extensive experience in the health sector.
