Streetscape a common theme at sessions

-

Two Baw Baw Shire “pup-up” sessions held in Warragul in late December proved popular with many local residents stopping by to greet and chat with the mayor, councillors and staff about a variety of Council projects, activities and concerns.

The sessions were held at the Palmerston St kiosk and Warragul Farmers Market.

Common themes discussed at the sessions included the Warragul cbd streetscape project, upcoming local events and activities – as well as general questions around landscaping, town amenities and maintenance activities.

Foot traffic along the street was not heavy but most of the people that passed looked to have more pressing things on their minds than a chat with councillors and senior shire staff.

Previous council “pop-ups” last year had been held in smaller towns.

Mayor Danny Goss said he was keen to extend the program this year to enable people to speak face to face with council about what they think, “good or bad”.

Joining Cr Goss at the kiosk were central ward councillors Mikaela Power and Joe Gauci, deputy mayor Peter Kostos, chief executive officer Alison Leighton, director community assets Cohen Van der Velde, chief information officer Martin Hopley and executive assistant Dominique Fernando.

“We want residents to know that we are available to answer their questions and discuss any matters and concerns. These face-to-face conversations are so valuable - they not only resolve queries and frustrations, they also help us better understand community needs so we can better plan and deliver our services.

“We’ll be out and about even more in 2020 so keep an eye out for dates and locations – we hope to see you all soon,” Cr Goss said..
