Three wins for Warragul
Warragul Bowling Club had a great day in round 11 of WGBD pennant on Saturday, with three teams winning and just one losing.
Division two: Warragul defeated Garfield 89/77.
John Vickerman, Ken Scammell, Janette Gallasch and Andrew Glover lost to Peter Lieshout’s team 19/21. David Alderman, Ian Belling, Peter Gallasch and Clive Padgham defeated Tom Cleary’s team 25/21. Des Stephens, Paul Simmons, Jim Power and Graeme Davis defeated Ian Warren’s team 22/17. Brian Kennedy, Luke Ward, Pat Hammond and Bill Clappers defeated Stephen Whyte’s team 23/18.
Division three: Warragul (2) defeated Boolarra 128/72.
Jack Lee, Linda McCoy, Norm Dickson and David Smith defeated Russ Peters’ team 39/12. Kerrie Currie, Darren McDonald, David
Ferguson and Necip Akarsu defeated Stan Williams’ team 36/16. Ken Brown, Gabrielle Draisma, Shirley Melsen and Elsie Hefford defeated Bob Allen’s team 30/27. Ken May, Matt Draisma, Glynis Mitchell and Bob Currie defeated Terry Parker’s team 24/17.
Division four: Warragul (3) defeated Yarragon 122/77.
Ted Holland, Marg Keeffe, Lester Mason and Eric Porter defeated Jarrad Grigg’s team 29/17. John Bell, Gary Thomas, Chris Wilkins and David Gatewood defeated Sam Mazza’s team 31/17. Jean Kydd, Brian Barby, Roy Hammond and Greg Mitchell defeated Richard Polmear’s team 39/23. Freda Lay, June Gnaden, Bill Clark and Barry Downer defeated Harold Mitchell’s team 23/20.
Division five: Warragul (4) lost to Moe (3) 51/87.
Alison Caldwell (sub), Mavis Larkin (sub), May Baldwin and Michael Royce lost to Richard Chetland’s team 14/29. Russ Carrick, Fred Pitcher, Bernie McIntosh and Alan Potter lost to John Larter’s team 17/31. Rod Mathews (sub), Glad Atkinson, Barb Maloni and David Piggin lost to Wayne Lock’s team 20/27.
In round 11 of pennant next Saturday, Warragul division two is home to Traralgon, division three is away to Traralgon RSL, division four is away to Drouin and division five is home to Traralgon RSL.
WGBD state singles
Warragul’s David Smith is the new West Gippsland Bowls Division state singles champion.
Along the way, David defeated Tim Roche (Yinnar), Sashi Bhatt (Morwell), Craig Thornton (Newborough) and then Keiran Gardiner (Newborough) in the final.
