Short spell stuns Jindivick

- By Joel Batson

Division three:

Drouin made it three wins in the top three grades, defeating Jindivick in a nailbiter.

Batting first, Jack Jarred (42) hit the ball hard to all parts in a fine knock, while Thomas Wans (25) made his push for higher honours with fine supporting innings. Andy Pyle (2-24) was the pick of the bowlers for a well-rounded Jumping Jack attack, who restricted the Hawks to 153.

In reply, the game was in the balance the entire way through, with Mick Tumino (51) seemingly getting Jindivick on the cusp of victory. However, a wonderful spell by Adin Short caused a stunning late collapse, as Jindivick fell 11 runs short, all out in the final over.

Yarragon dismantled a young Buln side at home on the weekend.

Batting first, John Allsop (67*) and Tim Jeffrey (58) took to the 10 bowlers used by the Lyrebirds in fine fashion, as the Panthers amassed 4-202 off their 40 overs.

In reply, Jeffrey was the star again, as he took 5-27 off his eight overs to leave Buln with no chance. Gaige White (49) and Andrew Burdett (31) were the only batsmen to find form as Buln were all out for just 127.

Catani continued its winning run with a win in a top-of-the-table clash with Neerim District at home.

Winning the toss and batting, Ben Coleman (64*) batted throughout the entirety of the innings to good effect, and he was well supported by some lusty hitting from Mitch Gregson (26*) at the end, as Catani recovered from a poor start to make 156 off their 40 overs.

In reply, only Remo Graziotin (53) stymied the Blues’ attack to any effect as the Stags looked shaky, with Andrew Hilder (4-9), George Zekic (2-13) and Mitch Gregson (2-23) - or, the usual suspects - all did the business to restrict Neerim to 123 all out.

Western Park climbed closer to the top four, beating Garfield-Tynong at home on Saturday afternoon.

Batting first, Fletcher Kennedy (42) made his most significant batting contribution for the club with a fine knock, while Michael Rabl (26) hit some lusty blows. Western Park’s innings stopped and started on their way to 7149.

Savage (3-22) and Jason Ridler (3-25) were the pick of the Titans’ bowlers.

In reply, Josh Baker (2-17) and Connor McCluskey (2-21) proved too good for the Titans’ order, who collapsed to 6-61 before a late flurry from Jake Van Den Berghe (37) almost got the Titans over the line. However, little support from the top order meant they could only muster 129, losing by a slim margin.

Longwarry easily accounted for GarfieldTynong as a dominant batting performance set the Crows up for a big win.
