Festival of fun at Logan Park

-

Aiden, born with dilated cardiomyopathy, a condition that affects only 12 in a million people, is now a happy and healthy 14 year old, living life to the fullest.

During the trying timesr, including many trips from Warragul to Melbourne for treatment and hospital visits, Lisa was yearning for some support in the country. Now, she’s founded the Gippsland Rhythm and Wings charity, set up to support families living in Gippsland who are affected by heart conditions.

On Australia Day, the charity will be hosting the Gippsland Rhythm and Wings Festival of Fun at Logan Park to raise funds for people battling heart conditions.

There will be market stalls, rides and other activities for families to enjoy together as well as a vehicle display and fireworks to conclude the night.

Event organiser Lisa Gilbin said it’s a chance for those affected by heart conditions to reach out for support.

“We hope to see those who have been affected by a heart condition, no matter how minor or major, come down to the event to meet and have a chat. It’s really about being able to give that ongoing support I know is needed in the Gippsland area,” she said.

Mrs Gilbin said the support she received in the city when she was making the trips with Aiden was fantastic, however, the physical support was lacking when she was back home in Gippsland.

“It’s really why I started the charity, because of Aiden, as well as knowing how much support is needed in this area,” she said. “I know there isn’t of physical support in the country areas and that’s what we trying to get more of a support group in the country.”

For anyone who wants to be involved in the event, stalls are still available, while volunteering positions are also still open.

Mrs Gilbin said all the funds raised will go back into the community.

“One hundred per cent of the funds raised go to those directly affected. We are volunteers, we aren’t being paid for any of this, so what we raise goes to those who need it most.”
